The Broadview Security Monitored Heat and Smoke Detector
Can your battery-operated home smoke detector notify help in the event of an actual fire emergency?
The Broadview Security monitored home smoke detector can.
Upon detecting smoke or unusually high temperatures, the detector sounds the home fire alarm system to warn you of a possible fire while simultaneously alerting Broadview Security to notify assistance*.
FACT: 80% of all civilian fire deaths resulted from home structure fires.1
If you own a smoke detector, you obviously realize how effective they are in helping prevent loss of life and property. But, it is important to understand the differences between the stand-alone battery-operated smoke detector you buy at the store and a monitored home heat and smoke detector installed as part of the Broadview Security system. Battery-operated/non-monitored home heat and smoke detectors are not connected to other smoke detectors or warning devices.
The Broadview Security home heat and smoke detector is connected to the Broadview Security control panel and is monitored by the Broadview Security Alarm Monitoring Center 24 hours a day!. If smoke or unusually high temperature is detected, the Broadview Security heat and smoke detector sets off an alarm and a signal is sent to our monitoring center. Broadview Security, in turn, notifies the fire department, then calls you to verify the alarm*. The monitored Broadview Security heat and smoke detector provides a quick link to the Broadview Security Monitoring Center, whether you are at home, away from home, sound asleep or unable to get to the phone.

Broadview Security recommends the installation of smoke detectors that equal or exceed the recommended standards of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The NFPA recommends installation of a smoke detector (which may include battery-operated, non-monitored detectors) on every floor of your home (including the basement), outside every sleeping area, and in every room where people sleep. NFPA recommends installation of strobe lights, in addition to sirens, for people who have hearing impairments. More information regarding recommended fire protection is available at www.nfpa.org or by writing the NFPA at 1 Battery March Park, Quincy, MA 02269. You should also consult your local fire department or other local authority to determine any legal requirements regarding smoke detectors in your jurisdiction.
* Not available in commercial or multifamily installations. In some jurisdictions, the verification call is made prior to calling the fire department.
